Twitter, one of the world's largest social media platform, launched its tipping mechanism globally on Thursday for iOS, with Android support on the way.
Twitter will support traditional payment platforms such as Venmo and Cash App in addition to Bitcoin, according to TechCrunch. Bitcoin tipping is made possible by Strike, a payment platform based on the Bitcoin Lightning Network that allows users to send and receive cryptocurrency instantly and for free. Users can add a Bitcoin address to receive tips in addition to a Lightning wallet. Strike is currently supported in all U.S. states with the exception of New York and Hawaii. When a creator is tipped via Strike, Twitter says it will automatically generate invoices so that they can better track the tips they receive. Furthermore, Twitter says it will "soon" support NFT authentication, allowing creators to connect their own crypto wallets to Twitter. This could allow them to use special badges to track, display, and authenticate their NFTs on the platform. Here's a video of Twitter's Bitcoin Tipping Mechanism In Action.
