According to court filings, Annie Nicole Ritenour's mother placed a "order" for murder-for-hire services on a website on the Dark Web on October 27, 2021 at 04:46 PM EDT.
Ritenour of CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. created an account and deposited around $3,200 in Bitcoin to hire a hitman to kill someone, the DOJ told WFXR News on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Acting Special Agent in Charge Neil Mathison said, "The FBI moved immediately to assure the safety of the intended victim and identified Ms. Ritenour as the individual responsible for the hitman (FBI) payment." "The FBI wants to educate the public that posting threats online or utilizing the Dark Web to pay someone to hurt you while using Bitcoins will get you arrested if you're a beginner." The DOJ says that Ritenour is facing one count of solicitation to commit a crime of violence and one count of murder-for-hire. If Ritenour is found guilty, she reportedly could face up to 20 years in prison.
